Micah 4–5 "Christmas—A Surprising Start to a Long-Expected End"
Ian Chew
Overview of the Book of Micah
Micah’s approach: “God’s people need a spiritual AED, so shock them!”
- 4:1–7. God’s surprising choice of people for living with Him in His new creation:
from many nations, humbled by His discipline (cf. Micah 3:12; Genesis 2:10; 1 Kings 4:25; Leviticus 26)
- 4:8–5:9. God’s surprising fulfilment of His new creation:
exile first, then rescue by His unassuming Shepherd-King (cf. 1 Samuel 16:1ff; 2 Kings 18–19)
- 5:10–15. The long-expected end as promised by God:
exclusive devotion between God and His people (cf. Deut 17:16–20)
Conclusion: Will you join God’s people in trusting in and following King Jesus (Matthew 2:1–12)?
